Hello, Hope you like the cover today. I found it yesterday looking through some old material a friend showed me. I have deliberately erased address by the way. The franking is rather nice I think you will agree.

This cover was carried on Qantas (Qantas Empire Airways) first around the world service in January 1958 on a Lockheed L1049G Super Constellation ‘Southern Auroa’. Aircarft VH-EAO. The flight routing was Nadi; Honolulu; San Francisco; New York; London; Rome; Athens; Karachi; New Delhi; Bangkok; Singapore; Djakarta; Perth; Melbourne; Sydney. What an experience that would have been. The 2/- stamps were used on the souvenir mail with a back stamp 20 January. According to The Australian Air Mail Catalogue there were 37,847 covers printed. The cover above was issued by QEA and there was another design issued by Wesley Cover Service. Both covers carry the required 4/- postage, using two of the special ‘Super Constellation’ stamps issued by the Post Office to commemorate the event.

Here is the aircraft outside the International Terminal at Melbourne/Essendon in readiness for the inauguration of the service.

Have a great day… Michael
